The Baby Registry, Trimester by Trimester
Because the baby industry says you need 200 items. You don't.
The baby industry wants you to believe you need 200 items by week 20. You don't. You need the right things added in the right order — heavy research early, easy adds late.
First trimester: Research, don't register
Just decide on the two items that need the most homework.
—
Car seat — the one thing you can't leave the hospital without
—
Stroller or carrier system — test in person if you can
Second trimester: The core registry
Shower invitations go out now, so build the real list.
—
Sleep: bassinet or crib, 2 fitted sheets, sleep sacks, white noise
—
Feeding: your planned path, plus backup for the one you're not planning
—
Diapering: changing pad, pail, sizes 1 AND 2 — everyone registers only newborn
—
One group-gift item — where grandparents and coworker pools want to spend
Third trimester: The forgotten small stuff
The under-registered categories.
—
A postpartum kit for you — the most under-registered category of all
—
Nail clippers, thermometer, saline, gas drops
—
4–6 extra crib sheets and burp cloths (trust us)
—
A meal-train or takeout fund
Registering for baby #2?
Skip gear. Register for consumables, sizes 6mo+, and help: cleaning service, older-sibling activities, dinner funds. Guests want to give — give them something real to buy.
Add items from any store to one Evernest Grow registry — and let family group-gift the big stuff.
